About this Blog

The next issue of Chimurenga will take the form of a once-off, one-day-only edition of a weekly newspaper called The Chimurenga Chronicle - or Chronic, for short.

This newspaper is set in the week May 11-18 2008: The thinking here is that much of the writing - theory, journalism etc - on contemporary African life is far behind the creative practice of it (Mbembe, Abdoumaliq and many others have been suggesting this for sometime). So the date is partly thumbsucked - we could have set this thing back 10 years. What we want to do here is create a platform which acknowledges this sort-of jetlag, and even embraces it. So the paper lives essentially between fact and fiction - everything is staged to some extend (part reenactment, part invention).

The Chimurenga Newsroom, this blog, is a research tool, a meeting space and a process document. Here you'll find research, news briefs and the gradual makings of a newspaper.
